Lisa has got great potential, but I think things are happening too soon for her and she needs more time to mature. If she doesnt make it on idol, (and i dont think she will) I think she will have more success in 3/4 years time. Im not saying she doesnt have talent, she does but she lacks maturity for a singer just now.

A lot of people are saying that Lisa sounds too much like Missy Higgins, I don’t mind that Lisa Mitchell sounds like Missy Higgins. I thought she was great from the auditions and is my fave Idol. However. she has sung the same folksy tune in every performance so I hope she can handle the different genres.
She just needs to stick it out with the genres not suited to her and that may prove difficult as she will have to rely on others being worse than her. Then again, you never know, she may surprise us and boogie down on Disco night!
She has that ethereal quality and a great, haunting voice. I can listen to her forever. She also has great looks and as her looks mature into her twenties, she will be a knockout. Despite what happens to her on idol she will have a record deal before the end of the year. being so young, her potential for growth and improvement are immense.

I luuuuuuurrrve Missy Higgins. Can never get enough of a good thing. I dont mind that Lisa sounds like Missy at all either. I think Lisa has got a gift, a unique gift. I know she stumbled on Sunday night, but it is forgivable. Many idolists pick the wrong songs, shes not the first. I love her dreamy tones. I could listen to her sweet guitar stumming melodies all day.

I love her sound. I am also a huge Missy Higgins fan and her CD is probably my all time most listened to CD so I would love for Lisa to release a CD. I'm interested to see how Lisa goes in the other genres, I hope she does ok. By the end I'd rather she released a CD that was created by her and isn't full of crappy idol-esque songs.

I agree. Lisa has her own style and Idol will probably make her look bad by forcing her to sing stuff that is not hers alone. When Lisa is singing her own class of music she rocks. She will sell records if she sticks to her own style of music. Idol could do more harm than good for Lisa.

I think Lisa has an amazing talent, and I'm looking forward to watching her develop it through Idol 2006. I'm a little sick of hearing all the wannabe music critics on the main Idol forums tho, I can tell you...lol. It's gotten to the point where I don't even enjoy reading them anymore...they're not constructively critical, they're immature and hurtful...anyway...back to the question... ;P I think Mark summed it up best with his comment the other nite...that when Lisa sings she goes into her own little world, and invites the audience in to share her music... it's amazing to watch, and to listen to...in front of the telle, or on the bus in the morning on the way to work. I hope she's seeing idol as a way to develop her own style, to absorb the experience and knowledge as she's surrounded by people in the industry... In fact I'm sure that's how she's seeing it...unfortunately some of the nubs on the main forums don't realise that Idol isn't just about winning...*sigh*...they'll learn tho, eventually As to the nubcakes who say Lisa is copying Missy or Jewel... I have an alternate view. I get the feeling she's just interpretting each song in her own way, and singing from the heart. A lot like what Bobby is doing. It's amazing to watch... and it's very moving. The totally opposite to listening to some of the other contestants banging out the same old mainstream regurgitation....often without feeling or soul. It's like they don't even feel the song....that they're just reciting it. Ikk... I can get that at Karaoke nite in the City on a Friday nite! Thank you Lisa for allowing us to share something a little different and far more moving. We can't wait to hear what you sing on Sunday. And you have NOTHING to be nervous about (easy enuff for me to say sitting here in anonymity...hehe)...just sing what/how you feel and all the people who know anything about music and what it means...will love you! As for what will happen during theme nights... my mind still goes back to Casey Donovan and Hayley from a couple of years ago. Both singers were amazing when they sang songs comfortably within their Genre's... but theme nights forced them to embrace something uncomfortable too fast... and in Hayley's case cut her stay short...and in Casey's...led to a lot of Criticism from the public. When she sang George she rocked the house...but when she was forced to sing that End of the Season Song...OMG! Blurrrgghh... why the smarts of Channel Ten thought of making the winner sing ONE SONG not written for them was a good idea is beyond me. I'm just hoping Lisa and co find a way to blend her amazing musical interpretation into the Rock theme night...and the many that follow afterwards. I'll be glued to the Telle on Sunday waiting!

Yeah. Great post Barbarosa. Even though I think Lisa has the talent, Im a little nervous about her time in Idol. I agree with what others are saying about Idol forcing her out of her unique zone. Lets just see how she goes Sunday night. She may surprise many.

I love Lisa. She is a real "artist" and I believe that is the reason some people are having a hard time "getting" her. A real artist finds it hard to go against what they are used to doing. Lisa is NOT generic and you need to be a bit generic to be successful on any Idol show. If you took someone like Mariah Carey and tried to have her do a Rock Night or Country night, she would probably crash and burn too. If you took Sean Paul or 50 Cent and had them do something that they are not used to doing, they would not appeal to many people. They are all artist and individuals with unique styles. Had Bobby not turned Super Freak into Bobby Style Super Freak, he would have crashed and burned on that week. He’s an individual too…that’s why I appreciate him as much as Lisa. To me, they are the only people who’s voices I would know INSTANTLY on the radio. Yes, the other contestants are great too, but I would know them…accept maybe when Damien hit a falsetto…then maybe I’d know him.
Lisa has a unique and beautiful style of singing. Her voice is one of a kind. She is drop dead gorgeous. She has a terrific personality. She is also a brilliant songwriter. These things alone should insure a successful career for her (regardless of the outcome of this contest). What Lisa needs, and will obviously develop very quickly from what I've seen, is stagecraft – performing skills. If Lisa could become less inhibited on stage and show more energy, she would be a superstar.... she needs to show a little Dean type energy to the world when she’s not holding her guitar. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that energy is a part of who Lisa is. When performing in the group, I've never seen her show more than 50% of what people are looking when they watch a performance. It looks as though the others around her are bursting with energy while she is rather subdued... Perhaps, as she says, because she's not a dancer. I don't know.
I think with confidence and about 2 years or less... Lisa Mitchell could be HUGE in the music industry there in Australia... Hopefully here in the USA too!!! I think she is as talented as (and could be successful here as) some of the biggest young stars of the past few years like Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Xtina etc.
